Longhorn, Labradorite Naja Necklace

Regular price $225.00

This handmade 2.5 inch wide Naja (inspired by the traditional Native-American/South-western Squash Blossom shape) necklace features four hand-cut, faceted flashy labradorite stones and two Tourmalated Quartz round stones. Vintage sterling silver earrings have been repurposed to create the top (long-horn skull) detail and round silver details on the side. Hangs on an adjustable 28" chain. Piece is not heavy, yet makes such a statement!

The Naja (or crescent moon shape) is often seen depicted at the center of squash blossom necklaces - a style of traditional Native American/South-western silver jewelry - that first appeared in the late 1800s, and is believed to be influenced by contact with Spanish Mexicans. “Naja” is the name the Navajo gave to a symbol believed to have originated in the Middle East in ancient times. Like so many symbols, it was created as a talisman for protection, with the Moors first affixing it to their horses’ bridles to ward off the evil eye. Most early examples of squash blossom necklaces feature plain Najas (strictly silver), but later designs began to incorporate turquoise and coral.

Our take on the Naja builds upon a classic, meaningful talisman, but features some of our best-selling stones and motifs.
